The core Loom use case is replacing meetings and emails with short recorded videos that can be watched at the recipient's convenience. A 3-minute Loom explaining a bug, reviewing a design, or walking through a process is often more effective than a written explanation and more efficient than a meeting. The asynchronous format is particularly valuable for remote and distributed teams.

The AI features add meaningful utility to this baseline. Auto-generated chapters divide a video into labelled sections, allowing viewers to navigate directly to the relevant part of a longer recording without watching the entire video. Summaries provide a text overview of the video content, which is useful for quick review or for recipients who prefer to read before deciding whether to watch. Action item extraction identifies tasks or follow-ups mentioned in the video.

Transcripts are automatically generated for all videos, with AI-powered editing that can remove filler words and awkward pauses from the video by editing the transcript, similar to Descript's core feature.
