What is Vectra AI?
Vectra AI is a network detection and response (NDR) platform that uses AI to detect attacker behaviour across cloud infrastructure, data centres, and enterprise networks. Unlike signature-based security tools that detect known threats, Vectra's AI models detect the attacker behaviours — lateral movement, command and control communication, data staging — that occur regardless of the specific malware or technique used.
AI-driven behaviour models learn the normal communication patterns of each device and user in the network and detect deviations that indicate attacker activity. An attacker who has compromised a workstation and is moving laterally through the network leaves behavioural signatures that Vectra's AI detects even without knowing the specific attacker tool or technique.
Privilege access analytics specifically monitors privileged accounts — admin credentials, service accounts, and domain controllers — for abuse patterns. Compromised admin credentials are the most dangerous vector in enterprise breaches, and AI monitoring of privilege account behaviour provides early detection.
The Cognito platform provides AI-scored entity risk across the network — each host and user is assigned a risk score based on all detected threat signals, enabling SOC analysts to focus on the highest-risk entities rather than investigating every alert.
Cloud threat detection extends Vectra's AI models to AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud environments — detecting attacker behaviour in cloud control planes, storage services, and cloud workloads using the same behavioural detection approach.
With customers including NHS, Barclays, and Wipro, Vectra validates across healthcare, financial services, and technology verticals.
How Vectra AI works
Vectra AI runs as ml platform software built around data workflows. Users typically start with a prompt, upload, or connected data source, and the underlying model handles the heavy lifting before returning a result you can refine or export. It's available on web and api.

What makes it worth shortlisting
The capabilities that matter most for teams evaluating Vectra AI.
Behaviour-based AI detection
AI models learn normal network communication patterns and detect attacker behaviours (lateral movement, C2, exfiltration) regardless of specific tool or technique — detecting unknown threats.
Privilege access analytics
Targeted monitoring of admin credentials, service accounts, and domain controllers for abuse patterns — the highest-risk compromise vector in enterprise breaches.
Cloud threat detection
AI behaviour detection extended to cloud control planes (AWS, Azure, GCP) detecting attacker activity in cloud environments with the same behavioural approach as on-premise networks.
Best use cases
Who should use it
Pros
- Behaviour-based AI detection finds attackers using unknown tools or living-off-the-land techniques that signatures miss
- NHS, Barclays, and Wipro validate across healthcare, financial services, and technology
- Cloud threat detection extends NDR to the cloud control plane where most enterprise expansion occurs
- Privilege access analytics monitors the most dangerous compromise vector with targeted AI detection
Cons
- Enterprise-only pricing requires significant security budget allocation
- NDR deployment requires network traffic visibility through TAPs or flow collectors — significant infrastructure
- Competing with Darktrace (covered), Cisco Stealthwatch, and ExtraHop in a competitive NDR market
