Adobe Lightroom's AI features represent some of the most mature and practically useful AI tools in professional photography. Unlike generative AI that creates new content, Lightroom's AI features are focused on precise analysis and enhancement of existing photographs, which is appropriate for professional photography workflows where creative control and technical accuracy are priorities.

AI Masking is the flagship AI feature. One-click selection of the subject, sky, background, person, objects, and specific body parts like eyes or hair allows photographers to make targeted adjustments without manual selection painting. A sky replacement operation that previously required careful masking with a brush tool is reduced to one click. Subject-specific adjustments, like lightening only skin tones without affecting the background, are similarly simplified.

Denoise AI, introduced in 2023, is widely regarded as the best noise reduction algorithm commercially available. Photographs taken at high ISO settings that would previously be too grainy for professional use can be cleaned to usable quality, which extends the practical shooting range of cameras in low-light situations.

Adaptive Presets, which adjust automatically based on the content of each photo, are useful for batch processing diverse photo collections while maintaining appropriate adjustments for different content types.

Lightroom is included in Adobe's Photography plan at $9.99 per month alongside Photoshop, which is the most practical entry point for photographers. Creative Cloud subscribers already have access to all AI features.
