Udio is one of the two most capable AI music generation platforms alongside Suno, and it has built a strong reputation for producing musically distinctive outputs that sound less like typical AI-generated music and more like the work of a creative musician. Where Suno tends toward more radio-friendly, commercially polished outputs, Udio often produces more experimental, stylistically specific, and musically interesting results.

Founded by former Google DeepMind researchers, Udio released its platform in early 2024 and quickly gained traction among musicians, creative professionals, and music enthusiasts who found its outputs more varied and interesting than the competition.

The generation quality across diverse genres is strong. Jazz, classical, electronic, folk, and experimental genres all produce results that display genuine musical understanding including appropriate harmonic content, rhythmic feel, and genre-specific production characteristics. This breadth distinguishes Udio from tools that work well in one or two styles but produce generic outputs elsewhere.

The free plan provides 100 song generations per month, which is generous for exploration. The Standard plan at $10/month provides 1,200 generations with commercial licensing, and the Pro plan at $30/month adds higher priority and more generations for heavy use.
